Strauss Also sprach Zarathrustra

Rehearsal day - Sunday 21 April 2024 – Manchester

The Rehearsal Orchestra seeks players for a one-day orchestral workshop on Strauss Also sprach Zarathrustra to take place at Hallé St Peter’s in Blossom Street, Manchester.

We last held courses in Manchester in the early 2000s and are very much looking forward to returning. Some of the players who joined us twenty years ago still come and play with us from time to time and we’re also keen to meet new friends. We’re very happy that one of our longstanding guest conductors Stephen Bell, Associate Conductor of the Hallé, will conduct. The day culminates in Open Rehearsal/informal playthrough at the end of the afternoon. Strings are led by a team of experienced professional section principals, led by Peter Nall.

Provisional schedule:

1030-1330

1430-1715

Open rehearsal 1745-1830

Venue: Hallé St Peter's, 40 Blossom Street, Ancoats, Manchester M4 6BF

Players usually include students, young/retired professionals and good amateurs of all ages (playing at Grade 8-plus, over eighteen, although slightly younger players are welcome to play if they’re accompanied by a responsible adult).

Cost: £39 (£25 for students). Some bursary funding is available to assist current and recent students to attend.

Players interested in taking part can visit our website www.rehearsal-orchestra.org for more information, or email me at anne-marie@rehearsal-orchestra.org.

Further weekend repertoire days take place in London. We also hold a week-long residential course in Edinburgh during the Festival and Fringe. (More info on our website – full details to be announced early in the New Year.)

We should be very pleased to hear from your players and hope they might want to join in.

Thanks and best wishes,

Anne-Marie

“The Rehearsal Orchestra does invaluable work on the quiet and with the minimum of fuss. An extraordinary number of British musicians have worked in it, and I myself was a timpanist with the orchestra for a time. It gives musicians an invaluable opportunity to work and learn music at the speed they will have to reproduce in their professional lives.”

Sir Simon Rattle

“I loved my weekend with you all.  There is a tremendous spirit and enjoyment about everything that enables wonders to be achieved.  Long may you thrive!”

Sir Mark Elder
